Quebecor Media Sales (hereinafter “QMI”, “we”, “us” and “our”) would like to inform you of the use we make of the information we collect when you visit our website (or our social media platforms or our specialized applications) as well as when you visit the websites of our affiliates that form the subject of a hyperlink authorized by us (hereinafter the “Site”). Therefore, this Privacy Policy (hereinafter the “Policy”) defines how we collect, use, disclose and process the information you provide to us when you use the Site.
QMI is aware of the issues raised in relation to the communication of personal information and internet browsing information and wishes to work with you to ensure that your privacy is respected and protected. For that reason, we would like to explain what type of information we collect when you visit the Site as well as when, how and why we collect such information. QMI would like to point out that we limit both the quantity and the type of information collected. Carefully read the following lines and check them on a regular basis for any changes that may be made by updating this page.
PERSONAL INFORMATION
1. What is “Personal Information” and how is it collected?
“Personal information” is information about an identifiable person, that is, information that may be used to identify you as a user of our Site, such as your last name, first name, home address, email address or telephone number.
Rest assured that no Personal Information is collected on the Site without your consent. In certain specific circumstances, but always in an honest and lawful manner, that is, when you register for our various personalization services (including when using the single sign-on of our social network partners), emails and online promotional contests, QMI requires you to enter your last name, first name, address, email address and certain other Personal Information in an online form. Therefore, when QMI asks you for such information, you are always explicitly notified in advance and are informed that you are providing us with information that will form the subject of a series of operations related to the collection, recording, use, modification, retention and destruction of such Personal Information. QMI will provide you with the means to ensure that your personal information is correct and up-to-date. QMI may also ask you, on such forms, if you are interested in receiving information about other services, contests or news about QMI or its partners. You always have the option to decline such offers or cancel a subscription to a personalized service previously chosen by you.
We may also automatically collect general anonymous information regarding your use of the Site, such as the date and time you visit the Site and the pages you view on the Site. Our servers may also collect information about the type of browser you use, as well as the IP address of your computer and the name of your internet service provider. This type of information is not Personal Information, but rather Browsing Information. Please see the section entitled “Browsing Information” below to better understand our policy in that respect.
Your email address may also be depersonalized (hashed, based on certain procedures) in order to be added to the browsing data.
2. How is Personal Information used?
Collecting Personal Information simply allows QMI to provide you with services that are more relevant to your needs, improve the content, interface and characteristics of the Site based on the information collected, contact you in the event that you win a prize and, if you have expressed interest, to send you information by email from time to time. Such usage data is also used for control purposes and is intended to improve the use of the Site.
3. Is Personal Information shared with third parties?
It is important to clarify that we neither transfer nor sell nor disclose your Personal Information in any manner whatsoever to third parties, including our advertisers, other customers or partners, without first obtaining your express consent. Notwithstanding the foregoing, your Personal Information may be shared with (i) QMI’s subsidiaries and affiliates, it being understood that your express consent will be requested when you provide such Personal Information for one of our paid services or a contest, and (ii) third‑party companies hired by QMI to store or process such information for and on behalf of QMI in accordance with contractual agreements that guarantee the privacy and security of such Personal Information. Please note that QMI may use the services of third-party companies located outside Canada. Therefore, and even if QMI requires such third parties to maintain the confidentiality and security of such Personal Information in accordance with the standards provided for by law, in certain rare cases, the laws in force in such foreign countries may permit Personal Information to be disclosed to judicial, quasi-judicial or government authorities.
4. Do we receive Personal Information from third parties?
When you use the single sign-on of our social network partners (that is, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo! and Google), we may receive your email address as well as your public profile information, which includes your name, profile picture, age group, gender, language, country and other public information. QMI will not require you to use this service to authenticate. If you would like to check the information shared, please see the following pages for more information: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=applications; Twitter: https://twitter.com/login?redirect_after_login=%2Faccount%2Fsettings; Yahoo: https://login.yahoo.com/config/login?.done=https%3A%2F%2Flogin.yahoo.com%2Faccount%2Fpersonalinfo; and Google: https://myaccount.google.com/intro/privacy.
5. In what way and for how long is Personal Information kept?
Personal Information collected by QMI is saved on servers that are inaccessible to the public and is protected by security measures that reflect its degree of sensitivity. Rest assured that your Personal Information is protected by security measures against loss, theft and unauthorized viewing, copying, use or changes. To protect the privacy of your Personal Information, QMI maintains administrative, technical and physical safeguards preventing unauthorized access and changes to and use and disclosure of Personal Information in our custody and control.
We will keep Personal Information only insofar as it is necessary or relevant for the purposes set out in the Policy or as required by law.
6. Is our protection of your Personal Information limited?
Notwithstanding the foregoing and despite our good intentions and the measures put in place, no data transmission on the Site or over the internet in general is completely guaranteed or safe. Therefore, we cannot maintain, justify or guarantee that your Personal Information will be protected against loss, misuse or changes during transmission, and, therefore, we do not accept any liability for Personal Information sent by you and used or misused by third parties if such Personal Information is intercepted during transmission over the internet or if we are hacked.
In short, the only situations in which QMI may disclose Personal Information, other than those expressly provided for by law, are as follows: (a) at the request of a lawful authority or in good faith if doing so is necessary to comply with any law or regulation in force, (b) to intervene in a lawsuit, prevent fraud, protect or defend the rights or property of QMI or QMI users, and (c) in extreme circumstances, to intervene in order to protect the personal safety of QMI users or the public.
7. Can you access your Personal Information or request corrections?
Yes, you can access your Personal Information or request corrections by sending a written request to [email protected]. However, we can respond to your request only if we have a personalized file about you (which is the case if you have provided us, or if you agree to provide us, with Personal Information).
Be careful! Our Site may contain links to websites that are managed by third parties; such links are suggested merely for your convenience. If you activate these links, you will leave the Site. Be aware that the Site and QMI have no control over third-party websites and QMI is not responsible in any way for the fact that these sites are listed on the Site. Therefore, all Personal Information you provide to such other websites is subject to the privacy policy of such other websites. QMI is not liable for any misuse resulting therefrom or for the way in which the organizations that manage these websites collect, use, disclose or process your Personal Information. Therefore, we recommend that you carefully review the privacy policies of such other websites.
Moreover, bear in mind that the voluntary dissemination of Personal Information during chat room sessions, by email or on an electronic bulletin board or blog or on any interactive page of the Site where you publicly contribute by posting content generated by you is not covered by this Policy. Please be vigilant when you share Personal Information in this manner and read our Terms of Use and netiquette in that respect, if applicable. In these cases, please be aware that you are transmitting your information at your own risk and that this information may be collected and used by third parties without your consent. In short, if you post Personal Information and such information is accessible to the public, you risk receiving unsolicited messages from third parties. QMI disclaims all liability in this regard. We therefore recommend that you remain prudent and careful at all times when you are online, browse the internet or create content on the internet, in particular when adding comments.
BROWSING INFORMATION
1. What is “Browsing Information” and how is it collected?
“Browsing Information” is general information about your browsing activity or your device. For example, information about your IP address, your browsing history (such as when and how long you viewed the pages of the Site), the content of the pages, the number of clicks you perform, the type of your device, the last site you visited, the next site you go to after leaving ours, your general geographical location (your country or province), your hashed email address as well as advertising and videos you view on the Site.
Browsing Information is depersonalized, meaning that we do not use it to reveal your identity (through matching or otherwise). It is used only for the purposes described below.
Browsing Information is collected using cookies, that is, small data files copied onto the hard disk of your electronic devices (such as your computer, tablet or mobile device) when you browse the Site. Cookies are automatically sent by the server of the Site to the browser of your device (Internet Explorer, Safari, Mozilla, etc.) and are archived, by default, on the hard disk of your device.
2. Who collects Browsing Information?
Browsing Information is or may be collected, in whole or in part, by (i) us, that is, QMI, Quebecor Media Inc., its subsidiaries and affiliates (hereinafter “we” or “us”) and (ii) certain companies with which we work for commercial or non-commercial purposes (such as our advertising partners, content partners, companies that may acquire some of our assets, providers of services, solutions or technology platforms related to the Site)(“Partners”).
In addition to QMI, Partners may collect Browsing Information and determine or analyze your use of our Sites in order to improve the quality of the Sites. In that case, only aggregate activity or history data is used. The information collected includes, in particular, the domain name, IP address, type of browser and system you are using, the browser language, your geographical location, your query, your interests and your preferences. The data we as well as our Partners may collect is so-called “non-sensitive” data and is depersonalized. Moreover, our Partners are required by law to adhere to established privacy principles and comply with their own privacy policies. Please see the following pages in order to learn about the privacy policies of some of our Partners: Google (google.com/analytics), DoubleClick (doubleclick.net), Omniture (http://www.adobe.com/privacy.html?promoid=JZEGB), Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/privacy/explanation), Krux (http://www.krux.com/privacy/) and Cxense (https://www.cxense.com/about-us/privacy-policy).
If you would like to disable the “remarketing cookies” function on our Partners’ pages, you can submit a request for exclusion directly to our Partners. For example, by visiting the Google site (www.google.com/settings/ads), you can disable interest-based advertising on this Partner’s site; you can do the same for Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/about/ads) or IAB (http://optout.networkadvertising.org/#/) as well as Cxense (https://www.cxense.com/preferences?optOutStatus=false). As far as Google Analytics session cookies are concerned, you can block the collection of data through the following link: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout/. Disabling these functions will not eliminate the delivery of advertisements altogether, but will instead ensure that you no longer receive targeted advertising.
Is Browsing Information shared with third parties?
Without your consent, we will not share any Browsing Information with third parties other than our Partners and certain Quebecor Media Inc. affiliates or related companies, and we will always do so in the manner described in question 2 and based on the same objectives as those described in question 4. Moreover, in such a case, we will take all available measures to ensure that they use the Browsing Information in accordance with our instructions, this Policy, the law and any other appropriate security or confidentiality measures.
3. How is Browsing Information used?
Browsing Information is collected to allow us to
(a) generate statistical data about our readership level, performance and use of our Sites and their content and the type of person interested in our Sites;
(b) improve your browsing experience. For example, the settings on your browser [that is, the language, time zone and plug-ins] will be suggested to you by default during subsequent visits to the Site so that you will not have to repeatedly enter some of your settings; and
(c) provide you with advertising that reflects your interests, such as advertising related to the Sites and content you have viewed.
Even though we are not members of the “AdChoices” program, we encourage you to view their website at youradchoices.ca to learn more about online behavioural advertising as well as your options as a consumer.
4. In what way and for how long is Browsing Information kept?
Browsing Information may be kept on our servers, our service providers’ servers or, if applicable, our Partners’ servers. It is kept only as long as necessary to achieve the purposes described above, after which it is deleted.
5. How can you prevent your Browsing Information from being collected?
Unless you expressly state otherwise, by browsing this Site, you agree to your Browsing Information being collected in the manner and for the purposes set out above. However, through your browser, you can at any time simply delete the cookies on your computers or completely disable the function that keeps or archives cookies on this Site. There are also certain functions that allow you to disable certain cookies and keep only those you want. If you are interested, please see the settings of your browser.
If you choose to disable the cookies, you can still access the information on the Site. However, if you disable the cookies, the Site will consider you as a new user each time you visit and only random and non‑personalized advertising will be displayed.
Certain advanced functions of the Site may be unintentionally affected, given that certain cookies ensure the interaction between the various pages of the Site. If disabling the cookies affects your browsing, please contact us at any time using the contact information provided on the Site.
6. What happens when you click on advertising or a link posted on the Site?
When you click on advertising or a link posted on our Site, you are redirected to the advertiser’s or a third party’s site and leave our Site. The advertiser’s or third party’s site has its own Browsing Information policy, which may differ from ours, and probably its own cookies. Once you leave our Site, our Browsing Information policy no longer applies and you will be subject to the policies of the new site you visit.
7. Can you access your Browsing Information or request corrections?
Yes, you can access your Browsing Information or request corrections by sending a written request to [email protected]. However, we can respond to your request only if we have a personalized file about you (which is the case if you have provided us, or if you agree to provide us, with Personal Information) and can clearly associate you with your Browsing Information.
RAW DATA
Quebecor uses third-party scripts on its websites to collect raw data from mobile device sensors used to access our website (“Raw Data”) to optimize the delivery of advertisements on our website. The Raw Data provides information related to the physical context of the mobile device used to interact with our website. The scripts do not collect, store or process personal information such as global positioning, location or geolocalization data and do not collect any other personal information or data linked to the mobile device. The Raw Data collected is anonymous and does not contain any information allowing the identification of a physical person.
At any time, you can restrict the access to the Raw Data of your mobile device. You must disable your web browser’s access to and transmission of the Raw Data from the settings and preferences options of your mobile device’s operating system.
